Press Conference: Partnership announcements as part of the Global Alliance's Fast Track Initiative - Second World Summit for Social Development.


The Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty will hold a high-level press conference following its First Leaders' Meeting on the eve of the Second World Summit for Social Development. Co-chairs Minister Wellington Dias (Brazil) and Secretary Eva Granados (Spain), along with Support Mechanism Director Renato D. Godinho, will outline the Global Alliance's innovative country-led approach to development cooperation, which aligns global partners around national strategies to combat hunger and poverty.

The observance of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty can be traced back to 17 October 1987. On that day, over a hundred thousand people gathered at the Trocadéro in Paris, where the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed in 1948, to honour the victims of extreme poverty, violence and hunger .
