The Second World Summit for Social Development takes place from November 4 to 6, 2025, in Doha, Qatar, focusing on social development issues and reaffirming commitments to the Copenhagen Declaration. World leaders come together to redefine strategies for social progress, strengthen global partnerships, and promote inclusive policies that foster equitable opportunities for all. The goal: to build societies that are more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable.


The session will serve as the soft launch of the new IAGA Policy Brief "A Call to Action: 10 Under-Prioritized Policy Areas in Long-Term Care and Support Systems for an Ageing Society." The discussion will highlight long-term care and support as a distinct policy priority, emphasizing dignity, autonomy, and human rights as core principles of inclusive and sustainable development.

The observance of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty can be traced back to 17 October 1987. On that day, over a hundred thousand people gathered at the Trocadéro in Paris, where the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed in 1948, to honour the victims of extreme poverty, violence and hunger . They proclaimed that poverty is a violation of human rights and affirmed the need to come together to ensure that these rights are respected.
